| | | Help Identify Wildflowers I was out and about a bit last week but didn't realise until I reviewed my images how many 'strangers' I'd come across. I hope you can help.
I have a feeling that I may have seen this before but the lower leaves are odd. These were taken in a quite shaded area in woods near Ferryhill. The light prevented reasonable close images
These appear to be Willowherb, without 4 lobed stigma and with stalkless leaves but I can't figure out what it is.
These are from the limestone garden at Rainton Meadows. |

| | | re: Help Identify Wildflowers Hi rscott,
1. Wall Lettuce, Mycelis muralis
2. and 4. What sort of ground were they growing in? Marsh Willowherb, Epilobium palustre has a club-shaped stigma - dampish ground..... and so does Short-fruited Willowherb, Epilobium obscurum
3. Wild Marjoram, Origanum vulgare

2 marsh/broad-leaved willowherb
| Stigma is four-lobed for Broad-leaved Willowherb, and its club-shaped in rscott's photos..... |

| | | re: Help Identify Wildflowers Jenny they were next to a track on the way to Rainton Meadows with what I would say is fairly good ground conditions, shadey and neither wet nor dry. I've posted a longer shot which indicates surrounding vegetation which might help. |

| | | re: Help Identify Wildflowers I forgot to say thanks for the replies - they are always appreciated. Wall Mustard is a new one to me. It makes the visit to Ferryhill worthwhile as I also found Wild Basil. I had seen Marjoram before, in another location, with images taken at the beginning of July last year when the flower buds weren't open. A much more attractive plant with flowers in full bloom I think. |

| | | Re: Help Identify Wildflowers I was back down the track again today and this is a close up of the Willherb now showing a 4 lobed sigma and it would seem an ID as Broad-leaved. Is that correct?
It could that while the camera doesn't lie,further images may reveal the truth. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
