| | | Wild Basil? Earlier this week I visited Ferryhill Carrs, a small reserve about 5 mile south of Durham City. It contains a long disused small quarried area where I found this plan. I believe it's Wild Basil which I haven't seen before. Can my ID be confirmed please?
I was born only about a mile from the site and spent many hours as a lad trainspotting there as the East Coast main line runs alongside the reserve. It was a warm sunny day and whilst I was not overwhelmed by the site it was great to relax while watching the trains with butter/damsel/dragonflies floating around. Nostalgia at it's best! |

| | | Re: Wild Basil? Thanks for confirmation. I think I'm starting to recognise some familues and from there the plants. Looking at my book suggests it's probably not common in North East England. It also mentions that leaves are similar to Marjoram which was growing close by and can be seen, I think, in one of the images. |
