| | | Seed ID Help Hiya folks, first time post, but I've been browsing the forums for a while.
Anyway, I live in Ireland, but I figure the Flora and Fauna is going to be similar here. The other day I had the door open, and a small "thing" blew in. I'd assume it's a seed of some ilk, but I'm not sure what it's from.
It was extremely light weight, and had a minuscule hole in the center. |

| Hi pr and welcome.....I don't know much about the fauna side of things, but the Irish flora does differ from what's found in the UK .....
There are less species here for starters, though a few (whats known as the Lusitanian flora) that are found in the SW and West of Ireland but don't show up in Europe again until you get to north Spain and Portugal.
And the Burren flora is totally unique - a combination of plants thats not found anywhere else in Europe...... |

| | | Re: Seed ID Help So JennyS, have you any idea what these things are? I know remember that when I was a kid, they were called Jinny Joes(The names kids come up with).
*EDIT*
Also, as a side note, if you type dandelion seed into google image search "Dandelion Seeds" You'll see that the thing I've photographed is different that a Dandelion.

| | | Re: Seed ID Help Hi again - how about taking your camera for a walk and photographing all the thistle and dandelion-like plants around, with a close-up of the seeds and down for comparison?
'Irish Wild Plants (myths, legends and folklore)' by Niall Mac Coitir gives Jimmyjoes and Jinnyjoes as a Dublin name for both dandelion and Spear Thistle, Cirsium vulgare. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
