| | | Pugsleys Marsh Orchid?
We went up recently to Malham Tarn and went in the boggy nature reserve. It was owned by the NT. We were looking for the pugsleys marsh/narrow leaved marsh orchid.
We found one that could be it. The one in the photo has been classified as a hybrid between northern marsh and pugsleys marsh by a local expert.
Is it a hybrid or the real deal? |

| | | Re: Pugsleys Marsh Orchid? Hi
It is a Dactylorhiza so who knows .
The only plants of this species I have seen (in Hampshire) were similar in flower to yours but had very narrow leaves, in some plants hardly wider than the stem (supposedly diagnostic). How wide were the leaves on your plant?
However once two or more species of Dactylorhiza are present at a site I wonder whether one can ever be certain of identification except by molecular analysis, and even then....
All the best

| | | Re: Pugsleys Marsh Orchid? Great photo there. As for id, it is difficult but if those leaves shown belong to the plant I would suggest it is the hybrid. Those leaves look very wide to be Pugsley's.... |

| | | Re: Pugsleys Marsh Orchid? Just an update on this one. We have had the photo sent off to an author of an orchid book and are awaiting a positive ID. I think the leaves of this were that of another plant to be honest. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
