Wildflower Photography

Anyone else trying to photograph all the flowers? I started this year and am currently on about 316 different species...

Re: Wildflower Photography

Yes, I have been photographing them this year but not for the past few weeks due to the wet weather. The photography bits easy, naming them is another matter, though it's a good way to learn.

Re: Wildflower Photography

I'm not trying to photograph them 'all', but do enjoy wandering around with my camera ready for yet another shot of a plant. The question really is what to do with them all? Digital photography is great but for the number of shots I take I have had to buy extra large backup discs to cope!! The other problem is the physical naming of each and every photo you decide to keep. On occasions I have taken 400 shots in a day. That's a lot of photos to name even if you can id them!!

Re: Wildflower Photography

Yeah I just tend to keep one of each plant unless it is rare when I keep two or three

Re: Wildflower Photography

I've been doing something similar for about a year and have 200+ varieties - most IDed via this forum. My Wild Flower folder has over 3600 images and takes up about 1.25 GB. I only have a simple camera but it produces images good enough to appreciate the beauty of plants at leisure and at will. I also get out more and with some purpose.

I don't think I'd get anything like the same enjoyment without the images and all of it for virtually nothing!

I say thank goodness for digital technology and for nature providing us with plants to photograph and enjoy.

Re: Wildflower Photography

yep. I have photographed every species I have seen this year. I decided to go into flower photography because you need a huge lens to photograph birds.

I am on about 400 species of plants this year and 20 species of orchid!

Re: Wildflower Photography

Yes well done indeed. I'm on 14 species and 3 white varieties so far. Still hoping for a few more yet. The helleborines are just starting!

Re: Wildflower Photography

Good shot of the bee there too!
Did you find that the bee orchids were rather small this year? All the ones I found were tiny compared to last year. It might be the underlying soil was more restricting to growth (went to different places to last year) but even so they were all small...
