Re: Seeking Raspberry

There are so many different spp of bramble that I personally cant be bothered to try to identify them from each other. It does mean that I probably miss id-ing raspberry plus other interesting plants! I read somewhere that there are 2000 spp. of bramble in the UK!

I have read something about that somewere, apparently raspberries love sunlight and because the nights are longer towards northern england & Scotland, raspberries are more common that way.

The light may be longer but sunshine has been a rarity up here for about a month now - do they also like the wet
I know that up in Perthshire around Blairgowrie there are numerous soft fruit farms.

Re: Seeking Raspberry

According to Oliver Rackham he mentions Chalkney wood Essex where rasberries are most prolific in coppiced areas. I think they do like the sun but are still traditionally a woodland understorey plant so can cope with an element of shade I think.

Re: Seeking Raspberry

That's correct Gill, as the ones growing outside my garden are south facing in a semi shaded copse.
