Re: My first wildflower ....

I have had a look at a pic of Charlock on the net
Charlock - Weed information - Organic Weed Management
The leaf on my plant is nothing like the leaf of that plant. You can see that Charlock has a deeply indented leaf whereas my plants leaf (as can be seen on the pic) is smooth

Charlock is a very variable plant. The photo isn't that detailed, but does appear to show spreading sepals which would be a feature of Charlock + the leaves look ok for it. I think that's what it is!

Re: My first wildflower ....

The meadow is beginning to green up well now, and quite a few new flowers are appearing
Here is a new pic of this one. It is only about 6 inches high but does not tie in with any description i can find of Charlock. Neither does it fit in with any of the named seeds I sowed in my seed mix
Also a few of the other newcomers. Recognise any of them?

I disagree. I would say Corn Marigold- possibly the only plant here from your seed mix, the rest will almost certainly be from the seed bank as ubiquitous ruderals.

No 5 doesn't have a flower, so you can't see how many petals there will be. As a composite I'm well aware that Corn Marigold has more than 4 petals (strictly not petals)!! It's not the same plant as the original ID, which is Charlock!

Re: My first wildflower ....

Would you remove any of them as being too vigorous and detrimental to those still to appear?

Whoops sorry... I was mistaking the first photo one identified as Charlock sorry new at this and perhaps I could do with some better ID reference books Didn't mean to offend anyone

Thanks. It will be possible to confirm your idea (or indeed mine ) in a few weeks time, and I will be sure to post a pic
If you are right you will go right to the top of the class with a big bag of sweeties
Tameblackbirds ... I am sure no-one has been offended, and it was obvious that you had simply made a mistake with the pic being talked about
I am finding it extremely difficult to identify these wild flowers, as, like you, I am new to the game. I have a good book and the internet is a valuable resource. We also have the benefit of participants on this forum who have had lots of experience. We can live and learn together
