| | | My first wildflower .... ....... to appear in my newly sown wildflower meadow
Anybody know what it is? Is it St John's Wort?
It is in a damp area of the meadow if that is any help |

| | | Re: My first wildflower .... I have had a look at a pic of Charlock on the net Charlock - Weed information - Organic Weed Management
The leaf on my plant is nothing like the leaf of that plant. You can see that Charlock has a deeply indented leaf whereas my plants leaf (as can be seen on the pic) is smooth |

| | Re: My first wildflower .... Charlock is a very variable plant. The photo isn't that detailed, but does appear to show spreading sepals which would be a feature of Charlock + the leaves look ok for it. I think that's what it is! |

As a composite I'm well aware that Corn Marigold has more than 4 petals (strictly not petals)!! It's not the same plant as the original ID, which is Charlock!

| Thanks. It will be possible to confirm your idea (or indeed mine ) in a few weeks time, and I will be sure to post a pic
If you are right you will go right to the top of the class with a big bag of sweeties
Tameblackbirds ... I am sure no-one has been offended, and it was obvious that you had simply made a mistake with the pic being talked about
I am finding it extremely difficult to identify these wild flowers, as, like you, I am new to the game. I have a good book and the internet is a valuable resource. We also have the benefit of participants on this forum who have had lots of experience. We can live and learn together | |
