Orchid ID please

Are these all Common spotted orchid?

They were all found growing beside a small country road

Not far away I came across this meadow which is managed to encourage wild flowers especially orchids

Wow! That's an impressive meadow, Barbara.

Yes, I think all six are Common Spotted, even though six is pretending to be a Pyramidal.

Re: Orchid ID please

Certainly looks an impressive meadow. I'd go along with them all being Common Spotted (D.fuchsii), the really impressive ones are the pure white ones, very unusual down here on the North Down, fabulous.

All the best

Re: Orchid ID please

I would say so yes. they are all common spotted orchid. There are sub species of common spotted orchid.

the one to look for is the albiflura ssp. its a perfectly white common spotted orchid - no markings.

Re: Orchid ID please

I would agree with Heath Spotted for number four, and number five has something of the hybrid about it don't you think? Looks like some Southern Marsh Orchids lurking in the three roadside photos.

Re: Orchid ID please

Again I too stick with heath spotted orchid. Very 'blousy' flower typical of the species

As for 5 I think I would stick with common spotted for this one. The markings are too distinctly 'common spotted' for a hybrid. Not a hint of spotting anywhere. I think its just one of the more heavily marked types that you often see.
