Lilly / Amaryllis at Minsmere ?

Can someone identify this ??

Growing wild beside the pond at Minsmere !!!!!



And what is the difference between these big lillies a amarillae?

It is definitely an escape (or deliberate planting) of a Lilium species, probably L. candidum or a cultivar of this species.

Amaryllis are in a totally different family- in fact the same family as the Daffodil.

I like to think that no one would have deliberately planted it
where it was ............. but some people !!

Google images confirms L. candidum as most likely, so thanks

Hoveflies like them

Do you think some animal may of buried it , or it was washed in ?

Keep an eye out for Scarlet Lily Beetles , they'll find it !!

I think it is a Regal Lily (Lilium regale) - it is not pure white enough for a Madonna Lily
