Is this red valerian or a garden escape?

Looks like red valerian.

Red valerian Centranthus ruber isn't a native plant. It naturalised in Britain when it escaped from gardens. It came from the Med. So I think you could say it's both, if that's the case.

Seen nice patches of Red Valerian in flower a fortnight back, not far from Winchester on the A34, growing on the cut chalk stone banks!

Thanks djackso for the info. So it's a mediterranean plant, explains why Red Admirable's love the plant so much, it's home from home!!!
