| | | Rainton Meadows - 3 IDs/confirmation please I visited Rainton Meadows today for the first time in a week or 2 and found these 3 plants
1) This was next to the footpath close to Joe's Pond in a damp and shaded location and in a very dense colonly
2) A reed or sedge no doubt. I recently got an ID for Branched Burr-reed and as this is a reed and has burrs I assumed it would be a similar species but looking at images of other burr-reeds seems to indicate otherwise. The stems were square and very abrasive in an upward direction.
3) Two images of a very small flowered vetch. I took a few pics but none seemed totally adequate for ID so I've included what I hope are the most helpful. I'd guess Hairy Tare |

| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - 3 IDs/confirmation please 1. Enchanter's-nightshade ( Circaea lutetiana)
2. False Fox-sedge ( Carex otrubae) - head does look longer than usual
3. Looks like Hairy Tare ( Vicia hirsuta) to me |

| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - 3 IDs/confirmation please Thanks for replies. Looks like I might have got (3) right.
This is a wider shot of Fox-sedge which, while not showing detail, indicates heads of various lengths.
I wonder why " Fox" appears in blue font.

| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - 3 IDs/confirmation please Thanks for explanation, It's useful I guess and might be amusing given that many plants have wildlife creatures in their simple names with " Fox" being fairly common. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
