| | | Thanks for help with IDs I've taken an interest in wild flowers for about a year and I would like to express my appreciation for the assistance given by contributors to this forum as, without their help, I certainly would not have been able to establish what I'd found and photographed. At present I've found around 200 plants, 90% within walking distance of my home, and probably 50% ID'ed by colleagues on the site.
I've almost been embarrassed at times to ask for IDs but know that people are more than pleased to help. I've tried using Wild Flower Key and while I am beginning to recognise some familes I doubt whether I'll ever suceed using keys from scratch. Like most folk on the site I enjoy all the things that nature has to offer and feel that WAB plays a significant part in enhancing that enjoyment.
Thanks to everyone concerned and I'm sure I'll continue to need your help |

Why not try to use keys for plants you are fully familiar with + see how you get on? They can be tricky to start with, but like most things get easier with practice.
Most important is getting pleasure out of wild flowers, which you seemed to be doing. |

I see things I would not normally come across and it encourages me to extend my knowledge so please please keep the photos coming.... that's as long as you don't mind me getting some wrong! Hopefully not too many!
So thank you for your continued efforts/walks/photos.

| | | Re: Thanks for help with IDs I first felt rather stupid when I first became interested in wildflowers! Deciding that the unmanaged land at the side my house needed some love & attention I decided as you know to introduce wildflowers to pretty the area up. I bought a wildflower catalogue and & ran through all the plants suitable for a shaded spot, mulling through the descriptions, I bought ones which seemed to me to be the most attractive. The plugs arrived and I couldn't wait to see them in flower to see what they looked like! LOL, all the ones I bought all happened to be living all around me in various locations on the farm land in which I live anyway! So that's how I started to know what is what and fuelled my passion further, even though at the time I felt a complete and utter twurp ! So I bet you don't feel as embarrassed now as you first may have felt eh?!? It's what I really enjoy about WAB, plenty of members who share the same passion, whether they have had that passion for many years or like you & I still fairly new, as I too am still happily learning and all being good will carry on doing so for a long long time! I have waffled on for too long now! Keep sending in the photo's I have learnt a great deal from your contributions rscott74 even if you do not think it!
All the best!

| | | Re: Thanks for help with IDs Thanks for interesting replies. It's nice to be a part of a really friendly online community. If ever I get chatting to anyone who shares my enjoyment of the countryside I direct them to WAB because, in my view, it's a untapped treasure which everyone with any interest in the country-side should be aware of.
It also makes one wonder what life would be like without the web, digital photography and, of course, WAB - enjoyment, understanding and knowledge of Britains naturally occuring assets would be less for sure! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
