Red Dandelion?

Hi i don't have a photo but wonder if anyone can help me identify a flower by my description.

About 18" tall, hairy straight stem, group of flowers at the top of stem that look like red / very deep orange dandelions. The back of the petals are red.

I have never seen them before ?

Sounds like it could be a hawkweed often known as 'Fox and Cubs'.

Yes, I agree with nutmeg, it sounds like Orange Hawkweed which is also known as Fox-and-cubs.

It's growing up the fields where I walk my dogs. Is it legal to dig one up and plant at home, if not, how and when can I get seeds from it ?

It might be pretty, but I think it can run rampant in a garden as it has runners: certainly I've seen it all over a few gardens and a large cemetery. You can buy seed from wild flower seed merchants.
