| | | Help with 4 IDs please I've been going through images from last few week and found these I can't fully ID. Can anyone help please? Thanks
Don't know what this is.
Is this Hemlock?
Cranesbill? but which one?
Cabbage family - one of the cresses? |

| | | Re: Help with 4 IDs please 1. Tormentil, Potentilla erecta
2. Not Hemlock, no purple on stems and leaves look too finely cut - could be Pignut, Conopodium majus or possibly Spignel, Meum athamanticum
3. Doves-foot Cranesbill, Geranium mollis
4. Leaves look bristly so its probably Charlock, Sinapsis arvensis

| | | Re: Help with 4 IDs please Thanks Jenny. I should have recognised Tormentil although it's the first time I've seem it this year. Perhaps the same with Doves foot Cranesbill - I saw that for the first time just a few weeks back but it was much smaller and almost lost in a mown grass area.
Do the images below help with your suggestions?
Stem - Spignel?
Stem - Charlock? |

| | | Re: Help with 4 IDs please Poison hemlock has blotches on its main stems...
Your picture realy only shows the flower in any detail making an I.D harder.
The plant in your picture looks very small to be hemlock - though they can and do sometimes grow short at around 80cm |

| | | Re: Help with 4 IDs please Hemlock is a large and robust plant. It smells of mice (nip down the pet shop and have a sniff). There are white patches, very similar to Sweet Cicely, on the leaves. It likes quite a wet soil.
If you are not sure what mice smell like, find some Hemlock... What, what, I'm not being silly. |

| I know you're fond of your hemlock, but this plant definitely isn't that! |

| | | Re: Help with 4 IDs please Thanks for further responses. I'll settle for Pignut. The plant in question is fairly common around here, even if we are if N E Enland, the discription in Wild Flower Key and the stated locations also fit. |
