| | | Two from the Brecon Beacons for ID Hi,
I was on the Brecon Beacons at the weekend and noticed the following two plants that I didn't recognise.
1 and 2 are of a plant that was forming large mats over a large area of the mid to higher ground.
1)
2)
3 was found growing in a quite large patch in boggy ground near a lake.
3)
Thanks in advance for the help |

| | | Re: Two from the Brecon Beacons for ID I think 3 is poss hare's tail cotton grass. I am more doubtful about number 1 but think it's a 'wimberry plant', think their proper name is possibly bilberry ? Tho could be wrong on both counts lol.

Your clear pics of 1 and 2 are Billberry as Galanthus thought it could be.

I've just checked net images of hares tail cotton grass and am almost certain your 3rd is that, as common cotton grass doesn't have just one tuft pointing upwards.

| | | Re: Two from the Brecon Beacons for ID The first is Bilberry but I'm not certain which one so its Vaccinium sp.
The second is definitely Hare's tail cotton grass Eriophorum vaginatum

| | | Re: Two from the Brecon Beacons for ID Thanks guys. The first one had been puzzling me since I saw it. I never thought of bilberry as it was such a low (10 - 15cm) mat forming plant. For some reason I just expected Bilberry to be a big bushy type of plant I'll try and avoid my preconceived notions from now on Thanks again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
