| | | Help with plant id pls Stockgrove Country Park, Beds, This spider was at the edge of a wide bed of nettles and the plant shown in the attached pic. Soil is VERY sandy and aspect is open.
Help to id the plant would be much appreciated.

The spider is sitting on part of a leaf of the umbellifer called Hogweed , a common species in flower at the moment.

| | | Re: Help with plant id pls Sorry Jenny - unfortunately I took the pic of the spider not really giving too much thought to the plant at the time. However I visit Stockgrove most weeks, so if necessary I'll take a pic of the plant next time I'm there.

I have seen some hogweed leaves really finely cut and pointy on certain specimens.

It's certainly a variable species - I've seen ones recently on the Machair in the Outer Hebrides where the whole plant was just a few centimeters tall and never gets any bigger.
