| | | Pink flower ID I noticed this plant a couple of days ago on a small grassy bank behind one of the benches on the path from Hetton Park to Rainton Meadows. To me it has a Pea/vetch look but I can't see any tendrils which I would expect on a vetch and it was somehow stronger looking. I think I can recognise the commoner vetches and this doesn't fit the bill.
I might be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time. Can anyone help? |

| | | Re: Pink flower ID Just had a look at it in the Wild |Flowers book by Neil Fletcher and to me it looks like either the Common or the Bitter Vetch I may be wrong but I was going by the shape of the leaves and flower head

| | | Re: Pink flower ID Thanks as always. Another new one for me. The illustration in 'Wild Flower Key' shows very narrow leaves but the text indicates they can be eliptical which match my images. It also mentions that the flowers turn blue or green which is also evident on my images.
I don't know if I'll ever be very good with IDs, perhaps I should be a bit more observant and read a bit more. A suppose I was thinking along the right lines but its excellent to know folks on the site are prepared to help.
PS 'Wild Flower Key' refers to it as 'Bitter-vetch'. I was a bit worried when I couldn't find it under 'Vetch Bitter'.
