| | | Which Iris? Wondered if anyone knew which Iris this is. It was growing in a pond in Hainault Forest, Essex (where it had obviously been introduced). I think it is probably Iris versicolor but wasn't entirely sure, couldn't get close enough to check the relevant botanical details.

| | | Re: Which Iris? Hi Tiggrx, I'm probably way of the mark but I came across mention of an Iris spuria in The Hamlyn Photographic Guide to Wild Flowers:
Flowers to 5cm diameter, falls with almost round blue-violet tip, contracted abruptly to stalk. Stems to 60cm. Unpleasant smelling.
Damp ground on calcareous or saline soil, naturalised in Lincolnshire and Essex. |
