| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - Yellow flower ID This method of mowing twice a year is now my current mowing regime-March & August. Before, my first years growth it was recommended to me a constant year of mowing giving the wildflowers a better chance of establishing with the competitive grasses in the sward, hence why my Hay Rattle never got the chance to seed for the following year. It just means now I will have to buy seed and add to the meadow during Augusts cut . I hope you have better success!!!

| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - Yellow flower ID The grasses in the mix I bought are reputed to be low growing grasses to give the wild flowers a better chance of survival. How low growing I have yet to find out
The mix was:
Common bentgrass
Crested dogstail
Smaller catstail
Sheeps fescue
Red fescue
Smooth meadowgrass
and the wildflowers:
Birdsfoot trefoil
Cowslip
Field scabious
Ladys bedstraw
Lesser knapweed
Meadow buttercup
Meadowswet
Musk mallow
Oxeye daisy
Ragged robin
Red campion
Ribwort plantain
Self heal
Salad burnet
Sorrel
White campion
Wild carrot
Yarrow
Yellow rattle
Corn cockle
Corn marigold
Cornflower
Field poppy
One large area of my meadow gets very wet during the winter months
I am expecting many of the above flowers not to survive those conditions. However, this will give me the opportunity to sow possibly Bugle, Cuckoo flower, maybe purple loosestrife etc in that area.
I have to say i am looking forward to seeing what comes up and how it sticks the pace |

| | | Re: Rainton Meadows - Yellow flower ID Nice to see you have some cornfield plants in the sward. Sounds like it's going to be lush
