| | | Buttercup Hi folks, does anyone know if its common for some buttercups to have six petals instead of five. Have come across a few recently by accident when I took a photo and didnt count the petals until uploading later. Look forward to hearing from you. k9 |

| | | Re: Buttercup Ok, thats a buttercup....... I came across a double-flowered one a while back, but I'd wondered whether you might have been looking at Silverweed instead..... |

| | | Re: Buttercup Took a photo last week and didnt realise it had six petals at first. Have been going along counting all yellow petals today like an loon, but found several more with six. Never noticed this before. (we need a loony smiley for me) k9 |

| | | Re: Buttercup I was reading recently about how creeping buttercup can cover a huge area in genetic clones of itself, one way of spotting them is looking for mutation like number of petals (apparently plants with only one petal have been found!) which is then a mutation held by all the clones in the field - the article was all about aging the plant by how far it had spread I think....
Well I was nearly there!! Have a read its quite interesting BBC NEWS | Wales | Mid Wales | Old age buttercups to offer clues
