The second is from the allium family but I don't think its chives looks more like a leek to me. The flowers in the 4th are grass I think meadow foxtail
And the last one is a shrub that grows in my garden but its name eludes me for the moment!
Hope that helps a little

2. Allium species, but not Chives. Possibly Crow Garlic, A.vineale, but wouldn't be sure without a flower or bulbils.
3. not too sure on grasses!
4. Rockrose, Cistus purpureus |

Barbara | Thanks, i had thought that the first might be wild carrot but i had doubts as apparentyl wild carrot is a tall plant whilst this plant and the couple of others were just over a foot in hight.
The second is deffo not a grass i am certain of that no grass i know of has a strong onion/ chive taste and smell, it highly probably to to be of the allium family.
yeah it was a litle shrub i just the lowers looked nice and colourful on an otherwise gloomy day |

There is no grass what looks like grass is what is left of the flowering chive/ garlic/ onion. The second picture shows what is left of the flower the first shows the litle buds.
I tried to dig one out but didn't have proper tools on me to do so but what i can say is its bulb is at least 5 inches below the ground and as i dug it got thicker a bit like spring onion does.

| | | Re: Looking for some I.D please Have a closer look at the 4th photo the flower heads do not link to the chive-like leaves but they do link to the grasses in the foreground of the photo. Try enlarging it and you should see what I mean.

Barbara | I too had suspected that an invader of the grass kind had sprung up but when i picked the "grass" and smelt it the smell was exactly the same as the other not yet flowered plants - it reeked of onion/ chive. If you look at the buds on the others you will see that they are about an inch from the top. When they open the flower grows and spreads upwards. I have been keeping a regular eye on these plants aswell the Poison Hemlock which is starting to flower - i was last there on monday and they hadn't flowered. |

| | | Re: Looking for some I.D please Maybe with growing so close the grass has taken on the smell of the allium.

Barbara | No they too had buds just like the "allium" - like i say i have been watching them. They are the exact same plants and they are not grass you will just have to take my word on this, i am aware of what the grass you refered too looks like and it does look very similiar - but it is not foxtail medow
But as i am only 90% sure that i picked the right bit of the right plant i will go back and double - tripple check them tommorow
The area they are growing on is a local dump area for the council vegitation and land scapping hence the wood chips - and i suspect that local people also dump garden waste there. |

| | | Re: Looking for some I.D please Barbara and Jenny are both right about the flowers being a grass (Meadow Foxtail) growing through an Allium (probably Crow Garlic) which is at bud stage. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
