| | | Re: Germander Speedwell ? Germander Speedwell has one unique characteristic in that the hairs on the stem are confined to just two lines - on opposite sides, and the stem often has a reddish tinge. The hairs on this seem to be all around the stem but it's difficult to see in the photo so I'm not convinced it is Germander Speedwell.

I find that it gets the two lines of hairs further down the stem, which is out of shot in this pic. |

Before I got all excited about finding plant new to me, I looked more closely. This was only true on the inflorescence not on the main axis of the plant, which had two lines of hairs. So it was Germander Speedwell after all. I don't know if this applies generally to this plant.

| | | Re: Germander Speedwell ? I don't know if this photo is really any help, it is not easy taking a pic of something a couple of inches high
Its leaves are pointed which should mean Germander
It does look very sorry for its self in the rain.
Apparently as soon as you pick it the flowers fall off.
Old names for Germander are "Birds eye Speedwell" and "Blue birds eye" |

| | | Re: Germander Speedwell ? I wonder how long Field Speedwell has been here as Culpepper doesn't mention it and I believe it originally comes from Asia. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
