Why are the flowers red/ pink on this horse chesnut tree, and there were about a dozen of these tree's.

any ideas welcome please

Looks like a red horse chestnut - which is a fertile hybrid between the Horse Chestnut, Aesculus hippocastaneum, and the Red Buckeye, A. pavia; the latter being from North America.

And the pink ones are far more resistant to the leaf miner that is causing so much damage in conker trees
