| | | Six more for ID/confirmation, please 1. I took this yesterday at Wilstone Reservoir near Tring. I think it is a better example of the Goldilocks Buttercup that people kindly identified for me the other day.
The remaining photos were taken from my stumblings along the Bucks/Herts border in the Chiltern Hills today:-
2. I think this one is Wood Speedwell.
3. This is obviously a Violet, but which one please?
4. I think this is another example of Wavy Bittercress (which Tiggrx and Bub-les ID'd for me yesterday) - a close-up of one of the photos shows that it has the correct number of stamens (6):
5. A buttercup (obviously!) but which one please?
6. Sorry, I haven't been able to work this last one out at all. If it's any help it was beside a woodland path (next to what I think is the Wood Speedwell), on presumably rather chalky soil as I was in the Chiltern Hills. |

| | | Re: Six more for ID/confirmation, please pretty sure 2. is wood speedwell - strongly-toothed oval leaves, pale foliage long racemes. Goldilocks is distinguised from all other buttercups by it's kidney-shaped basal leaves (from 'the wild flower key' by Francis Rose) |

| | | Re: Six more for ID/confirmation, please First Buttercup is Goldilocks. The second looks like it could be Bulbous, check the sepals to see if they are bent back over themselves.
I would agree with the last one being Yellow Pimpernel.
Incidentally the day after I replied to your Goldilocks enquiry I found three plants myself whilst doing some Phase 2 survey work. Turned out to be the first ones recorded in the Borough.
Chers,
Adam

| | | Re: Six more for ID/confirmation, please Doh! I should have thought of Yellow Pimpernel, as I remember seeing it when I was looking through one of my wildflower books the other day.
Thanks for all the replies so far. |

As to the violet, it looks like Common Dog-violet ( Viola riviniana), though the spur is rather dark - this might indicate that it is a hybrid with Early Dog-violet ( Viola reichenbachiana) or it might not... ( Viola riviniana var. nemorosa has a dark spur) Quote:
