Pendle Hill Sedge

Would anyone like to hazard a guess at this sedge that I photographed on top of Pendle Hill, Lancashire at the weekend, absolutely masses of the stuff about.Thanks

Hi black - I'll hazard a guess that its Hares-tail Cotton-grass, Eriophorum vaginatum

Thanks JennyS, I would have never guessed it was this, it looks totally different with the small yellowish flowers compared to the fluffy white fruits I'm used to.

I think that this is due to the plant being in flower at the moment. The yellow is part of the pollen producing flower of the plant.

In the same way, grasses have a seed head, but flower at the early part of the year.
