| | | Cowslips or Oxlips? I thought you might like to see this lovely verge of Cowslips (Oxlips?) that I photographed the other day near to Dorchester, Dorset. Just sitting there at the side of the road on a roundabout!
Now, are they Cowslips or Oxlips?

| | | Re: Cowslips or Oxlips? Thanks. I was hoping they were. I haven't seen them in such numbers at the side of the road before. I just had to stop the car and photograph them.... no one else seemed to have even noticed. I got some very funny looks.
Here is one I took on my tummy as a car sped past! Priumula veris it is then!

| | | Re: Cowslips or Oxlips? Thanks Jez. It was pretty overcast, but sometimes that really suits a flower like this, and makes the colour zing in the gloom.
Cheered me up

| | | Re: Cowslips or Oxlips? Oxlips are woodland plants and grow in just a few woods in east Anglia. It is one of our rare plants.
What you can sometimes see which is confusing is the False Oxlip (Primula x polyantha) which is the hybrid between the Cowslip and a Primrose. |

| | | Re: Cowslips or Oxlips? I managed to find a wood with some in only the other day. Very different to cowslips now I have seen them for real. According to the site notice board there are just 100 sites left with this native flower in them. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
