| | | ID needed for this plant Hi there, I've seen this plant in a couple of places near me but haven't been able to ID it. It could be a garden escape I guess. Does it look familiar to anyone? Thanks, Julian |

Carol.
I find this plant all over the place - it's lovely and good enough to be a native

| | | Re: ID needed for this plant I've had a hunt around the web about it. The earliest intro date I can find is pre 1600. It seems to be getting some scientific attention "Lunaria annua L. is a biennial which has a cold temperature vernalisation requirement. It is widely grown in many temperate countries as an ornamental flower. Interest in the species as an industrial crop has developed from the discovery that it has a seed oil content of 30–40% which contains high levels of erucic (C22.1) and nervonic (C24) acids." So we may end up seeing fields of it. Prettier than rapeseed I think!
I have the white variety in my garden.

| | | Re: ID needed for this plant I also looked it it up, it is spread throughout Europe. It must also grow in Asia because they call it the "money plant". I remember when young calling the seed heads pennies ( pennies were alot bigger then)
Here is mine |

| | | Re: ID needed for this plant Thanks for the ID. Certainly a nice flower on it, which now I look at it again is a typical brassica type of flower. Reminded me of mustard. One mystery solved. Julian |
