Horse tails are one of those difficult groups for me. I'm sure someone will be able to help you out though. |

Equisetum hyemale
Equisetum fluviatile they look like your pic but could be a hybrid, |

How tall was the plant and what habitat was it growing in?
These are not the easiest plants to ID from a photo  |

The plants were on damp, often wet ground near the coast. Height-wise I'm not sure now......the tallest were maybe about a foot tall, but thats a bit uncertain - I still keep forgetting to measure plants or get scale in the photos  |

I think it is probably Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) - the commonest species. Compare with the pictures at this link. Look especially at the leaf-sheaths (the little collar around the stem above each whorl of leaves). Equisetum arvense | | |
