| | | Re: gorse in flower It is Common Gorse, Ulex europaeus- lovely smell. Broom doesn't have spines. Later in the year you may find Western + Dwarf Gorse in flower. Hence when Gorse isn't in flower kissing is out of season (or something like that!) |

| | | Re: gorse in flower As Aeshna already explained...the 'reason' gorse is ALWAYS in flower is because there are three varieties that all flower at different times during a year...hence the rhymes about when its not in flower kissing season is over...( so in other words its always time for kissing).
ALL of the versions of the little saying, irritate me...as they dont really rhyme or work for me?...so i made my own version.:
"When the gorse flowers missing there is no time for kissing"
or
"Theres no time for kissing when the gorse flowers missing"
Either or works better for me !....now who wants a snog?

| | | Re: gorse in flower The aroma that the gorse flowers give off is my favorite part. You can smell it from 25-50 yards away (depending on how strong the wind is)
3 different varietys I never knew that how do you tell the difference?
Poirot
P.S. Thanks for the responses

| | | Re: gorse in flower I've always thought that the rhyme about gorse was because Common Gorse IS always in flower - you can almost always find a few flowers on a Gorse bush if you look - you don't need to look for Western or Dwarf Gorse
