| | | Re: Tiny Blue beauties for ID Doesn't look bristly enough for Pentaglottis + leaves are rather cordate. I'm pretty sure it's a fellow Boraginaceae member- Brunnera macrophylla- especially since it was with other garden plants such as hyacinths. A delightful spring flower. |

| | | Re: Tiny Blue beauties for ID It is not Brunnera macrophylla which doesn't have leaves in the inflorescence and has more flowers in a bunch. I think it probably is Pentaglottis though I agree it looks slightly odd. Quote:

| | | Re: Tiny Blue beauties for ID Hmm, having said all that I think I want to change my mind
Compare with this pic of Brunnera taken in my garden
I think the specimen in your picture looks more leafy because the flowerhead hasn't fully expanded yet. Otherwise very similar.
There are several pictures of Pentaglottis in the Gallery you can compare with too.
It would be useful if you were to look at the basal leaves of the plant. Brunnera leaves are rounded and heart-shaped at the base while Pentaglottis leaves taper at the base giving a narrow lance shaped leaf. |

| | | Re: Tiny Blue beauties for ID Thank you for all of your help. I'll upload it to the Gallery as Brunnera macrophylla.
Cheers,

Agree shots of the whole plant would be useful. This is a case of the plant being easy to ID if I saw it in the field, but a little trickier from this photo. |

Hi Nick - its Green Alkanet, Pentaglottis sempervirens
| Really sorry about too quick an ID - I should have enlarged the photo...
I'd agree it doesn't look like Green Alkanet now I've looked closer. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
