| | | Re: Blackthorn? Would say its blackthorn as it flowers just as the leaves are coming whereas the hawthorn is more in leaf when it flowers

It looks very similar to this
I've never known what it is other than "that thing that looks like blackthorn" but the flowers aren't so dense as on a blackthorn bush and there are no thorns at all.
Expert help please!

Ps Blackthorn well in flower now in Dorset/Somerset, a proper blackthorn winter. |

| | | Re: Blackthorn? For what it's worth, down here in Cornish clay country our blackthorn has definitely not flowered yet, though it should soon. (We have hawthorn too, and I can tell the difference!) There is still a lot of blossom on what I thought, less certainly, was cherry plum (which your photos look like), though it is past its best.
Our forsythia was two weeks later than Bristol's, too - I don't know whether that could be the effect of urban heat islands? |

| | | Re: Blackthorn? The blackthorn in our garden hedge came into flower over the last weekend - very prolific. Incidentally have no sign of leaf on our hwathorns although in lower lands these are all greened up - but nowhere near flowering! Quote:
