| | | Re: orchids A little early for most of the orchids, but the Bird's-nest should be out at Holt Country Park. There are usually rangers on site who can tell you exactly where to look.
Also, Green-winged Orchids should be out at New Buckenham Common. |

| | | Re: orchids Sounds about right to me. You might be lucky and find the very rare Pugsley's marsh orchid. If you do let me know where as I havent found it yet!
Other possibility are the butterfly orchids if the weather warms up a bit! Beeston common is supposed to have some....

Harrap lists Buxton Heath and Beeston Common, is that where you've looked? |

Been to Beeston, but this is supposed to just have hybrids now for pugsleys. I actually went to see the Marsh Helleborines there a couple of years ago. Fantastic sight, 1000s of them! Marsh Fragrant orchids are also there in large numbers too. I havent got round to visiting Buxton Heath yet. Will try to get there during May. Mr Harrup is giving a talk in Dereham on Tuesday that I am hoping to get to. Hopefully get some good pointers of other local sites for Early Marsh in and around the county plus better info on where the heck the creeping tresses actually are on the north coast...

| | | Re: orchids Hi Ian,
I love Marsh Helleborines, will have to visit Beeston in the summer. I went to The Dell in Wells Wood last year, a good number there and quite a few Southern Marsh and hybrids. From there I walked through the pines looking for the creeping tresses, couldn't find any though. From what I can gather there are some just west of Lady Anne's Drive but I only managed some old Yellow Bird's-nest.
I keep meaning to visit the cliffs at Overstrand for the coccinea Early Marsh, have you been to see them at all?
Cheers,
Andy |

Yes I got to Overstrand last summer. Fantastic display of early marsh and southern marsh on the clay cliffs. I went there in July not expecting to see any orchids but found them there and all in perfect condition. Took 100s of photos!
I was actually looking for one of the broomrapes that is supposed to flower on top of the cliffs. I didn't find those though!
As for the creeping tresses, I think the best way to find them is to go on Simon Harraps trip there in early July!
cheers
