| | | Confused by vetches I thought I had identified the different vetches found in my garden, but having looked in my books, now I am not so sure. I am trying to understand the differences between Tufted Vetch and Bush Vetch. I think I can differentiate the Common Vetch.
I think the photos below are either 2 tufted vetch or 2 bush vetch and one common vetch. There is not a bush vetch in the Gallery for comparison, so if they turn out to be bush vetch I will upload one of them.
I know that common vetch flowers appear in ones or twos and that tufted and bush have more flowers up the stem.
Can anyone explain the other differences between bush and tufted and which of those appear below?
Thanks,
Jenny |

The Francis Rose book shows the difference quite well |

| | | Re: Confused by vetches Here are some pics of all 3. The tufted vetch one isn't great like as light was failing when I took them. Tufted, bush and common. You can see bush vetch has broader leaflets (ovalish) than tufted (tear drop shaped) and small groups of 4 to 8 flowers rather than a dense raceme. |

Thanks,
