| | | Violet ID please These are two different violets (I think) and I think the darker one is common dog violet and the paler one is early dog violet but please can someone confirm this or tell me otherwise. They could be sweet violets - I'm not sure.

| | | Re: Violet ID please It's difficult to tell without seeing the colour of the spurs - dog violet spurs are lighter than the petals while sweet violet ones aren't. Both have colour variation on their petals. I'd go for the first one being common dog violet and the second a sweet violet..but....??? |

| | | Re: Violet ID please I think you are right tufftie. Common dog violet and sweet violet. I have just been out and found the white version of sweet violet near to where I found the purple one. Thanks for your help. Your still sure the common dog violet is not early dog violet? |

| | | Re: Violet ID please Hmmm - not too sure as it depends on the spurs and sepals, neither of which can be seen. The spur is the bit where the flower joins the stem - it looks like a spur |

| | | Re: Violet ID please Second is definitely Sweet Violet, Viola odorata, from leaf shape. The first I think is Early Dog Violet, V. reichenbachiana from leaf shape + pale flowers. |
