| | | Unidentified Flower Anybody got any ideas on this one? Taken on the same trip to Lancashire in August 2007. Again, I think this was on a wildlife reserve a few mile inland from the coast. |

And there again with further thought it might be Sea Aster but strange to unusual growing inland?? My book says sepal pointed on MD and rounded on SA and they certainly look rounded to me?? What do others think?
Pauline
PS Another book says that it is rare growing inland and mentions the midlands. As it was on a reserve I now really think it will be Sea Aster and an interesting find!

| | | Re: Unidentified Flower You've got me thinking and looking now! Apparently the species Aster lanceolatus (a michaelmas daisy type) grows at Esthwaite Fen North Lancs according to my old copy of Clapham, Tutin and Warburg?

| | | Re: Unidentified Flower It does look like Sea Aster, Aster tripolium, to me, though identification of Michaelmas Daisy types would need keying out with the specimen to be 100% confident. |

I'm confident this is the plant. In recent years many coastal species have made incursions inland, especially along gritted roads, though I realise your plant wasn't from this habitat! |

| | | Re: Unidentified Flower I'm sure it's Sea Aster. A pretty common flower along the Lancashire coast.

Yes this looks very succulent - we all seem to think it is Sea Aster! I'd be interested to hear which Lancashire reserve you were on - being a Lancastrian - just curious as to where it has popped up!
