I think this is a variety of Butchers Broom but that's as far as I get.
The shoot came in a bunch of flowers last October and when the flowers died I kept this as it was green and put it with other flowers. Then over Christmas I noticed what appeared to be flowers. These tiny flowers grow out of the center of the leaf either top or underside that doesn't seem to matter. I've not seen these flowers before and they remind me of orchids. The flowers are just over 1cm across the front on stalks 1.5cm.     |

It is Butcher's Broom, Ruscus aculeatus. What appear to be leaves on this plant are in fact modified stems called cladodes. Agree, it's an unusual looking flower. |

There are several varieties of Butcher's Broom. A quick Google throws up some pictures of one species (Ruscus hypoglossum) that has flowers very similar to those in the photo, although the leaves don't seem 100% right. |

I tried google as well and wasn't sure that's why the question. The cladodes are about 10cm andare not spikey so I think that rules out Ruscus aculeatus.
I was coming to think it might be Ruscus hypoglossum but I'm not convinced. | | |
