| | | Can't join the forum I have taken four photos of my tree which I cannot identify from the Collins Tree Guide. Unfortunately the site states my photos are individually too large to put in the Gallery to paste in my query. Now if I were to send them by email they could be sufficiently condensed to go. But not with this format. Shame! |

| | | Re: Can't join the forum How about using a free bit of software like "Paint" to resize your images, so that you can upload them? We'd love to see them... |

| | | Re: Can't join the forum will they not go in forum images - I thought stu took the file size restriction off that (but i could be wrong)
or like tigger says download something like picasa from google and use that to resize them.
or email them to yourself
Hope that helps
Ps : you havent wandered into the hundred acre wood if you were wondering , though we do have a winnie somewhere - if piglet shows up even I might start to have concerns

| | | Re: Can't join the forum The size limitation has been removed so I don't understand why you can't upload them. |

| | | Re: Can't join the forum I've had the same with forum images, although Gallery images load at larger sizes, forum images will not load at over 800 p, I seem to remember Stuart saying in an earlier post that he was considdering reducing forum images to a max of 600 p, but that was before Christmas fuddled my brain, so I may be mistaken.

| | | Re: Can't join the forum With modern cameras going to many megapixels, taking a size restriction off altogether can be mighty dangerous and lead to a server running out of memory. A sensible admin will limit the maximum memory allocation to each process so that you can't bring the whole thing down, but that's going to mean that the process of uploading large images barfs.
There used to be a handy freeware utility called Resizer available, but it seems to have disappeared from its main site. I do know you can still find it, and some tips on making nice web friendly images, from Posting photographs :: tree-care.info |

I do know you can still find it, and some tips on making nice web friendly images, from Posting photographs :: tree-care.info | The site now has massive storage capacity, having recently changed server. The file size for uploads to the main Gallery are now unlimited, but they're resized down to screen display size. If you click on the image you'll get the native size uploaded.
The uploads are monitored, and the user won't want to upload too many full sized images anyway, due to the painful waiting involved as they're uploading.
Of course this unlimited size applies to the main galleries, not the old archives, forum and unidentified ones. |

It's the memory usage involved in resizing. |

I can't remember the last time a full sized image was uploaded so it's hardly a pressing matter. |

| | | Re: Can't join the forum Thank you for your concern. Number one picture in my file is 4.06 MB. I have tried Paint, it only appears to chop parts off rather than compress. I have emailed this picture to myself, it is compressed by bxAutoZip, but what do I do then? My intention is to follow your instructions to upload the pictures to the Archive for unidentified's to then paste to my posting. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
