| | | Re: Four flowers to ID please Can you get some pics of the leaves for the second flower? It does look different but that can happen from time to time, I had a similar situation recently with Herb Robert with a strange looking flower with big petals, but it really couldn't have been anything else!
The shape and width of the leaf helps with ID for this family. |

Not sure which flower it relates to Sorry, this is not a good photo, but it looks like stitchwort leaves.

| | | Re: Four flowers to ID please I wouldn't go 100% on the early dog violet as flower colour in the violets is quite variable. You need to look at the leaf structure, sepals and spur too. |

Your photo from in between the other two is also Greater Stitchwort, from the alternating lanceolate leaves.
For the other two, I think they are the same, the first being an older flower thats about to go over, the second being only just opened and very new with a bit more growing to do. It has the 10 anthers and stamens, but in the first I can only count 9, it's old and becoming ragged. you can also see the seed capsule is swelling (greenish yellow 'blob' in the center) so this flower has been fertilised. |

| | | Re: Four flowers to ID please Hi Mike,
Thanks very much for the info
Is the information I provided on my page representational of the Greater Stitchwort? http://www.igimages.co.uk/_florafaun...titchwort.html
Are there any unusual facts about this flower, for instance, whilst doing some internet research the other night on the Red Clover, I found out that it can be an effective contraceptive for sheep! I always find trivial information like that very interesting indeed!
