What is this bush?

I have seen these about, and am wondering what they are. Are they quinces?
Are they of edible variety??
(They look a little different to the quinces I bought in a shop...)

Hi

Looks to me like Chaenomeles japonica Japanese or False Quince, only just edible and a quite different beast from Quince, apparently have a very high Vitamin C content.

I see. Oh well. Not enough quinces in the world if you ask me!

Jap quince apparently not too bad as a preserve, tho quite sharp I heard.

Not sure why my photos aren't working properly.

They do seem to be acting very strangely - the first time I looked at this thread they weren't showing, then I came back later and saw the thumbnails, though I couldn't get a larger version, and now they've gone again.....

@They should have been added to the unidentified Gallery in the archive section to show the full size image.

Yup, Chaenomeles. They are a very nice early spring shrub, lots of long lasting flowers. They tend to look best when trained up a wall, a la fruit trees. Have to say, that's a very impressive amount of fruit!
