| | | Chrysanthemums Anyone know where you could buy show chrysanthemums from?
My dad was a top grower of chrysanthemums quite a few years ago and would like to buy him some to get him started again. The problem is that I can't find anyone who sells them. Am not talking about those smaller plants that are fairly unpopular am talking about the plants which have large globe shaped heads on them.
Any advice would be much apreciated. |

| | | Re: Chrysanthemums Yes, you'd need to go to a specialist breeder - have you got a chrysanthemum society in your neighbourhood? They would give you good advice.
Don't know whether I'd want to work withs chryses - the smell gives me a headache - but they are magnificent things at this time of year - especially the autumnal colours that you don't really get in other flowers. Quote:

| | | Re: Chrysanthemums Hi
The best place to find out about local growers is either a local flower show if there are any or ask at the local allotment society.
As far as those small ones are concerned, if they are doubles they could be the same varieties as your Dad grew but they are trained to produced sprays of flowers and treated with hormonews to keep them small. The large flowered varieties have all side shoots removed so that they only produce a single flower.
All the best

| | | Re: Chrysanthemums Try the back pages of the monthly gardening magazines or else the RHS plant finder for a list of specialist suppliers; many public libraries have a copy of the Plant finder, although not necessarly a bang up to date version.
