I wonder if anyone has a comment about the usefulnes of interested novices like myself visiting botanical gardens. The specimens there are not "wild" in the true sense but I suppose it gives the opportunity to observe and study plants that don't appear commonly in the locality. I think Durham Wildlife Trust also has it's meetings there.
As I'm over 60 I will be able to travel there by bus free of charge from next April, presently I'm restricted to Tyne & Wear, so I could make regular visits. How many other members aim to utilise free bus travel to pursue their wildlife interests I wonder? |

And many will have helpful staff who will answer questions, and others will have guided or themed walks. Some (many? all?) will have a Friends group that you can join and become involved and learn more.

| | | Re: Flower IDs from Durham University Botanical Gardens Thanks for advice. I'll make a point of visiting more often next year.
For a small annual fee admission charges are waived.
As I will be able to get to Durham free on the bus after 1st April I'll also try to see more of the countryside around the City. I have taken out a book from the library regarding walks around the river Wear between Durham and Sunderland and some of the areas closer to Durham look very good.
Along with many members who are interested in wild flowers, I'm looking forward to the Spring and pastures new. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
