Are you any good on shrub id ?

Anybody know what this shrub is ? It was growing in mixed woodland on clay soil.

Think it is a Ribes, (flowering currant or ornamental currant)

Just looked up Ribes and I would say you are right, so thank you for that Ollie. It does say that it needs full sun and a well drained soil, so it might not do too well, there in the woods.................Jon

There are quite a few specimens round where I live growing as hedges, or I should say people have planted them to fill in the gaps in Hawthorn hedges. If I look out my back living room window I can actually see one.

Definitely Flowering Currant, lots of colour at this time of year!

Definitely Ribes, one of the best flowering shrubs for the garden,mine grows in full sun on clay!
