| | | Tree ID please - Glossy red berries Went for a lovely autumn afternoon walk today, and noticed its a good year for all kinds of fruit and berries. Saw a tree I had never really noticed before - sorry should get in the habit of taking my camera, but didn't have it so no photos to help. It had leaves rather like sycamore (three lobes), but not so large. But the thing that really took my eye was the beautiful glossy red berries it was covered with - they looked almost good enough to eat! Slightly translucent, shiny skinned in small clumps, with individual berries about the size of a rosehip. It was in a mixed hedge along with all the usual suspects - hawthorn, hazel, bramble etc.
I though first possibly field maple, but not been able to find a satisfactory photo to prove or otherwise. It wasn't rowan, I know them. Any suggestions please? |

The lesson is, "Never go out without a camera!". |
