| | | Elder Just after a bit of advice about sowing Elder seeds i've collected some of the berries, and the instructions on another site say to take the seeds out of the fruit, but it doesn't mention how deep to plant them can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

John | Don't most gardening books say that seed is best buried the same depth as the seed size. So small seeds only need a light sprinkling over them whereas larger seeds need to have a thicker layer of soil (or whatever) above them.

I love growing tree's, it's just finding somewhere to put them that i struggle with | A friend of mine gave a load of different tree seed as a gift one Christmas,I spent a whole year or more germinating them in and out of the freezer in some cases
the result was maybe thirty or so trees at different sizes over a period of time they got planted all over the place usually up the banks on laybys. this was all a long time ago and some are doing quiet well "we have watched them grow over the years as we have travelled up and down the local roads ............

leon | Oak are about the easiest to grow, they will come up the next springtime they aren't mega slow growing, some of mine that are a year old are over 18in tall, some of the same age are 6in tall, suppose it just depends on how strong the individual seed is I've done a few Beech as well, they are lots slower growing than the oak, mine which are a yr old are now about 3-4in
Give it a go |

I love growing tree's, it's just finding somewhere to put them that i struggle with | Tell me about it! My brother decided to grow 200 Oaks & dumped them on me whilst he moved house. At some point i'd like them gone so i can make that used up space look attractive. But struggling to find homes for them which may sound daft living in a wood! |
