Re: Which Wild Flower?

Oh thats a toughie.....

Bladder campion was my first that i could safely I.D. and the first i learnt a VN name for ( Fairy Potatoes) so that one is special to me....but its not exactly colourful.

Or i could choose something rare like a ghost orchid or fly orchid?...

Hmmm...But to be honest ...a small island covered in deep red field or common poppies would be heaven. and they keep flowering for a long time.

Re: Which Wild Flower?

As there's no such thing as a chocolate bar plant, I'd have to go with Wild Strawberry.

Mmmm......Strawberries

Re: Which Wild Flower?

Would have to be Ramsons (Allium ursinum) for me, a wood bursting with them in spring is a sight (and smell) I would hate to live without. And of course the Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta)would be right up there on my list too.

Re: Which Wild Flower?

I'd have to go for Herb Robert.

I think they're a very attractive plant - a very pretty pink flower, with interestingly shaped leaves that can be red-tinged or even entirely red. It's just as well I like them, as they are possibly the flower I see most often when I go walking! I always look out for them, and am disappointed when I don't see them.

Another, more practical, reason for choosing them is that they flower for a longer period than most plants, from April to November.

Perhaps- but it wasn't stated in the question + they are still wild flowers, which are naturalised in places in UK. Viper's Bugloss or Foxgloves would possibly be my native choice.

Re: Which Wild Flower?

I'd have to go for Poppies & Sunflowers for the colour and Foxgloves for the Bees. I know thats 3 but I couldnt choose between them. Needless to say I have all 3 in the garden

Re: Which Wild Flower?

Mine would have to be Round-headed Rampion, closely followed by Viper's Bugloss.

If we're talking about 'Desert Islands Flowers', shouldn't we be able to choose eight species, our favourite flower book and a luxury flower-related item?

Steve.
