| | | More plant queries from the forestry track... I took a walk up the nearby forestry track to see what had showed up in the last few weeks.....
1. Slender Thistle (Carduus tenuiflorus) ?
2. Wintercress, but which one?
3. The hairiest buttercup I have ever seen!
4. (Early August) Noticed this one as it was an very orangey-yellow (just a colour variation?) |

Could the buttercup be Creeping, Ranunculus repens, which can be pretty hairy + leaf-shape looks ok, but can't see if there are any runners? |

| | | Re: More plant queries from the forestry track... yes agreed welted thistle, slender thistle seems to have all gone well over by now, but is quite distinctive when alive, its a much paler grey green colour with pale pink flowers that are quite wimpy and small in comparison with the others,
the second I don't stand a chance at (I will tackle this group next year!)
The third I'm not sure on either do you remember what was going on with the sepals? That might help quite a bit |

1.The trouble with Welted Thistle, Carduus crispus is that I can't find any records for it in this part of Ireland. It seems to only be in the East of Ireland.
3. Wasn't flowering
4. Normal sepals, not down-turned. |

Even in south-east of england where there are many recorders it's not that difficult to find new records (admittingly many are aliens!). I can't see what else this plant could be, though it's always trickier identifying plants from photos than seeing them in the field. |
