Re: id please

Yes, Gaultheria shallon - medium-tallish garden shrub.
The low growing G.procumbens is also known as Checkerberry, but Blueberry is a different beastie - they are Vacciniums

Several species are grown as ornamental shrubs in gardens, particularly G. mucronata from southern Chile and G. shallon (Salal) from the Pacific Northwest of North America. The fruit of many species is edible, though insipid in flavour so not extensively eaten. However, it is possible to make a strong minty tea from the leaves. There are several recipes available on the internet that involve fermenting the leaves to draw out the wintergreen taste.

Cheers,

Adam

Re: id please

that would tie in about the pacific northwest of north america. the original site was built by lord strathconna for his native american wife to make her more at home. but she was not happy and went back to canada.
