| | | Orchid I.D. Here is an Orchid I found today....and there was me thinking the only one I would see at the minute was Autumn Lady's tresses. Can anyone I.D. this for me please?
And the leaf if it helps.... |

| | | Re: Orchid I.D. Well yes and this is hardly in flower ( ok there is 2 or 3 hangers on) its on its way out and well gone over...
Nature has no strict rules as you know...and we have certainly not had the "by the book" weather..
All our primroses are in flower again and my white russian comfrey is suddenly flowering again...although your orchid isnt flowering again its just hung on well. |

| | | Re: Orchid I.D. Sorry it was me getting over excited because it is only the second Orchid I have seen in flower, behind my Autumn Lady. Everytime I see a new flower I get excited! Especially when it is something I am not expecting to see at all. |

| | | Re: Orchid I.D. Dan I am not sure it is a Common Spotted....I went back to see it today and take a grid reference for next year and decided to measure the specimen. The flower from ground to tip was 13.5cm and the leaf length was 10cm.
Could it be a Heath Spotted Orchid? What do you others think?

| | | Re: Orchid I.D. sorry, where abouts did you see this? it certainly has the feel of a heath spotted, but common spotted can be extremely variable and given that they are more prevelant i'd be cautious about id'ing it without my field guide and a bit more info.

| | | Re: Orchid I.D. Like i said its very gone over so not much left to identify.
It may well be a heath spotted..i only know my local chalk downland orchids visually and going by your leaves i thought maybe common spot...i knew it wasnt fragrant or pyramidal etc. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
