Acorns...acorns...acorns...oh, and more acorns..

Is it my imagination or is the acorn crop this year way bigger than usual? We've just come back from a very wet drive round our highways and byways and all commented on the fact that the oak trees around here are laden with acorns this year. I certainly don't remember seeing this sort of number before. There are going to be some very portly squirrels and jays rolling around this Autumn.

I guess this is due to the warm dry spell we had when the oak was flowering allowing for optimum pollination.

Saw my first today! There were alot of them also hazelnuts too. Maybe there won't be any next year then?

I haven't noticed any acorns yet but I have seen some hazel nuts and some of those funny London Plane thingys (like horse chestnuts).
