| | Why is my ornamental cherry tree weeping sap? Hi I've just found this website and absolutely love it as I love everything to do with wildlife (although I'm definitely no expert). Unfortunately I have found that my ornamental cherry tree appears to be weeping sap from several of her branches and around the trunk, it's like a clear, gooey sap, although the rest of her looks very healthy. My husband had to recently cut down some conifers that were next to her due to their height and she does have a cotoneaster growing up around her, but then they've been growing together for approximately 8 years. I'm really worried and don't know what to do, can anybody out there help me? Thanking you in anticipation. Treebeard |

| | | Re: Why is my ornamental cherry tree weeping sap? I have often seen this on Cherry and Almond trees, and was told that it could be
Boring insects or fungus, there was no evidence for either
The other explanation was a growing spurt! I am not an expert but offer these explanations as they were offered to me

| | Re: Why is my ornamental cherry tree weeping sap? Thank you both for your prompt replies. Unfortunately, Tursiops2 was correct, you were spot on, as my tree does actually have 'bacterial canker' but at least I now know what to do, she is going to take a bit of caring for until October but she is such a beautiful tree that it'll be worth it. Thank you again, it really was appreciated. Treebeard |
